Two great ways to make homemade apple chips, whether in a dehydrator or in the oven.
Ingredients:
- Apples - I used a mixture between green Granny Smith apples π and red delicious π
- 2 tbsp Cinnamon
- 3/4 cup Sugar
- Dash of Pumpkin Pie Spice
Oven Directions:
- Preheat Oven to 200'
- Line baking sheet with parchment paper
- In a bowl mix together Cinnamon, Pumpkin Pie Spice and Sugar (you can always add more if you run out or want to make more apples)
- Thinly slice apples - I find it to work best with a mandolin
- Coat both sides of apple in the sugar mixture and individually place on parchment sheet
- Bake in oven for 2 hours or until the apples look like the right crunchiness when taken out for 2-3 minutes
- Turn off oven and allow apples to cool while still in the oven (that is off) for another hour or two.
Dehydrator Directions:
- Line with parchment paper (if using the cinnamon and sugar coating)
- In a bowl mix together Cinnamon, Pumpkin Pie Spice and Sugar (you can always add more if you run out or want to make more apples) -- when using red delicious apples, I find that they are sweet enough as it without anything added, so I typically will make these on the dehydrator without parchment paper since they make less of a mess, if you do this omit step 4
- Thinly slice apples - I find it to work best with a mandolin
- Coat both sides of apple in the sugar mixture and individually place on parchment sheet
- Set the dehydrator at 140' for 6-8 hours - you may need more or less time or may need to rotate the trays.
